Small Steps Count
Faithful Growth Doesn’t Rush
Growth rarely announces itself.
It happens quietly—beneath the surface, in small choices made consistently. We often expect transformation to feel dramatic or immediate. But Scripture reminds us that God works differently.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”
— Zechariah 4:10
God rejoices in beginnings. Not just outcomes.
The Pressure to Accelerate
It’s easy to believe that if growth isn’t obvious, it isn’t happening. We measure progress by visible milestones and compare timelines.
But Galatians 6:9 gives a different rhythm:
“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Notice the phrase — in due season.
Growth has a season. Harvest has timing. Faith requires patience.
Roots Before Fruit
Psalm 1 describes a person rooted in God’s Word:
“He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season.”
Fruit does not appear immediately. Roots deepen first.
Much of what God builds in us happens below the surface — strengthening trust, reshaping perspective, forming endurance.
What looks small may actually be foundational.
What Faithful Growth Looks Like
Faithful growth often looks like:
Praying even when you feel distracted
Choosing patience when irritation would be easier
Returning to trust after doubt
Showing up again when yesterday felt heavy
These are not dramatic acts.
They are steady ones.
And steady obedience matters deeply to God.
Trusting God’s Pace
We often want clarity before obedience and visible progress before consistency. But 2 Peter 3:8 reminds us:
“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”
God is not rushed. He is deliberate.
Faithful growth doesn’t hurry because it is forming something lasting.
A Gentle Reminder
If your growth feels slow, it does not mean it is absent.
God sees:
The quiet discipline
The unseen prayers
The small acts of obedience
Small steps count.
And the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for caring about small beginnings. When progress feels slow, remind us that You are still at work. Strengthen our patience, steady our obedience, and help us trust Your timing. Teach us to value quiet growth and to remain faithful in the small steps. Amen.
